Social assistance systems

Remote monitoring

E-healthcare applications improve medical and social contact without having to leave the home. This is essential, for example, in rural areas with limited medical resources or for issues that can be answered online. Meanwhile, vital and health data can also be forwarded to the care staff to enable remote monitoring. Credit: Shutterstock

Social assistance systems are technological solutions that help older people to maintain social contacts and reduce loneliness. These include digital communication platforms, intelligent voice assistants, social robots or virtual care systems that enable conversations, remind people of appointments or allow them to take part in social activities.

Advantages for older people:

  1. Reducing loneliness: Social assistance systems promote interaction with family, friends or care staff and help to avoid social isolation.
  2. Simple communication: voice control or intuitive operation means that older people can easily make video calls or send messages even without prior technical knowledge.
  3. Reminder functions: Systems remind you of social activities, birthdays or daily routines to strengthen social integration.
  4. Support for cognitive abilities: Interactive games or conversations with AI-supported assistants promote mental activity and can have a preventative effect against dementia.
  5. More safety in everyday life: Social assistance systems can notify contact persons in an emergency and thus provide additional safety.
  6. Promoting independence: Older people can maintain social contacts independently without having to rely on the help of others.

Social assistance systems play a key role in helping older people to actively participate in social life and feel less isolated.
