Energy Transition

Energy transition refers to the change from non-sustainable, fossil energy sources such as oil, natural gas and coal as well as nuclear energy to a sustainable energy supply using renewable energies from wind, water and sun. The aim is to create an alternative, clean, affordable and safe way to generate and use energy.

The goal of the energy transition applies not only to the electricity sector, but also to heat generation and transportation. In the power sector, it is also important to continue to maintain secure supplies and keep electricity affordable.

Energy transition brings additional jobs and value creation. With the expansion of renewable energies, independence from international energy markets is increasing. Many regions and countries can do without nuclear energy and position themselves for climate protection. It also offers a great opportunity for fundamental economic modernization.

Even though some steps have already been taken towards the energy turnaround, a full supply of renewable energies is still unrealistic. At present, it is not possible to produce a secure supply from renewable sources alone. A natural gas phase-out would therefore probably be premature. This is all the more true because natural gas burns very cleanly. Among fossil fuels such as oil, coal or even peat, natural gas has the lowest CO2 emissions.

In order to implement the energy transition, it is not only necessary to use all renewable sources, but also to save energy.
