Barrier-free living refers to the design of living spaces that enable people with physical disabilities or senior citizens to move around their homes safely and comfortably. This includes adapting doors, floors, stairs, bathrooms and other elements to remove obstacles such as steps, narrow passageways or appliances that are difficult to access.
In old age or with special disabilities, people often need a wheelchair or rollator. Automatic doors or sliding doors are advantageous for this, and these products also require a larger radius, which must be taken into account in the rooms.
The aim is to enable independent living and improve the quality of life for all residents, regardless of their physical abilities.
Typical features include wide doors, entrances without thresholds, non-slip floors and barrier-free sanitary facilities.
