Barrier-free living refers to the safe and comfortable design of living spaces that enable people with physical disabilities to move around and find their way around their home. This includes adapting doors, floors, stairs, bathrooms and other elements to remove obstacles such as steps, narrow passages or appliances that are difficult to access.
In old age or with special disabilities, people often need a wheelchair or walker. Automatic doors or sliding doors are therefore an advantage. Furthermore, these products also require a larger radius, which must be taken into account in the rooms.
The aim is to enable independent living and improve the quality of life for all residents, regardless of their physical abilities.
Typical features include wide doors, entrances without thresholds, non-slip floors and barrier-free sanitary facilities.
